"The good news is that I have the most glorious group of supportive and caring family and friends, and fantastic insurance through my union. The bad news is that not all women are so lucky, so let's fight all cancers and make universal health care a reality."

Fans and followers immediately filled up the actress' Twitter pages with messages of support with one devotee writing: "The thoughts and love of millions are with you!! You're an amazing, strong woman and you can power through this...", and another adding: "Sending love and support from a fellow #Northwestern alum. Please know you have millions out here pulling for you!"
A third fan tweets: "If laughter is the best medicine, cancer has no chance when it comes to you!"
The health news comes just 11 days after Louis-Dreyfus made Emmy Awards history in Los Angeles earlier this month with her sixth Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series win for Veep, becoming the star with the most wins for the same role.
